The 2009-2010 wrestling season was a very successful one for the Royals. The Royals team
was led by team captains Louis Giroux and Julian Lake. These two young men finished their
senior year with a load of tournament championships. Other Royal wrestlers to have a great
year were seniors David Billesbach and Connor Pfefferle who both finished as Channel League
Champions. Standout freshman Michael Orozco made it to the finals of the league championships
and will help lead the Royals next year. Louis Giroux had an amazing year which lead him to a
tough CIF Championship tournament, where he placed 6th. The 171lb weight class turned out
to be one of the toughest divisions in Southern California. San Marcos advanced 11 of 14
weight classes to the CIF Championships held at Pacifica High School in Oxnard.
Former Royals wrestler Zach Belway had a great freshman year at Yale University where he was named Freshman Wrestler of the Year. Zach also competed in the International Koei-Kan Karate-Do National Championships where he was part of Team California, the team won 1st Place in the full contact competition. Congratulation Zach, you make us proud!
Former Royals Wrestler and Football player Alex Mack is preparing for his sophomore season
with the NFL's Cleveland Browns. Mack, who started all 16 games last year in his rookie season,
earned NFL All Rookie Honors from the Sporting News.
Alex is 6'4" and weighing in at 311lbs. Last Summer Alex came into the wrestling room and worked
with some of the kids on switches, one of Alex's signature moves.
